Hello Everyone!

It's been a few days since my last post, I've been very busy with school and work, so I figured I'd make a quick update. I recently purchased a few new products and I thought I would do a quick review on a couple of them (the third will be it's own post here very soon!).

The first product is a hair product. A sea salt spray to be exact. I've been on the market for a while looking for one, but hadn't purchased because I have used Herbal Essences Totally Twisted gel for years, and it's always managed to give me a pretty beachy look. Since cutting my hair, I hadn't been using the gel because my bangs are always blow dried straight and I didn't want straight bangs with crunchy hair. My hair waves slightly naturally when I let it air dry, but it needed a little help, so I started looking for a spray.

Generally when I'm looking for products, if I haven't been given a recommendation I buy whatever product is cheapest, and that's what I did this time. I bought the göt2b beach trippin’ saltinfusion WAVING SPRAY from Walmart. Its instructions say to spray on damp or dry hair and blow dry or let air dry. Pretty low maintenance if you ask me. After using it a couple times, the product is pretty good, however it does leave some crunch in my hair, and I have to brush it out. I think I will continue to use this product until I've emptied it, and then try a different one.

The next product is a face product, a face mask. I've only used a few face masks throughout my years, most of them being when I was in my early teens. Back then, almost any face product dried my face out, so I stayed away from them. As I've gotten older, my skin has evened out a bit and I wanted to give it another go. I decided on Freeman Facial Polishing Mask in Charcoal and Black Sugar. I bought it after reading a blog post from a former high school classmate who raved about it. I know that a lot of higher end face masks contain charcoal, so I thought this would be a good one to try, and it was cheap. I have used it twice now, and so far it's alright. I don't think two times is quite enough to see how well it will really work, and I plan to make another post after using it a few more times.

The mask creates an interesting sensation on the skin, it feels very hot. It could be the charcoal drawing out the impurities, or just my skin being ultra-sensitive again. I kind of enjoy the sensation though, it's not uncomfortable, it just feels as though the product is working. After rinsing off the mask, my skin felt very, very clean and soft, but didn't appear any different. Which, again, is most likely because I've only been using it for a week. I have tried cleansing my face before and after the mask, and I prefer cleansing my skin before. I remove my makeup and use a light cleanser and then apply the mask, leaving it on for about 5 minutes. I plan to continue using this product and will post an update after some more use!

P.S. –I also recently bought the Sephora Collection Beauty Academy Blockbuster palette for a 'school project'. I'll have a review and some looks using the palette up very soon!

Caitlin.

Hi everyone!

I felt as if I was to really get the ball rolling I needed to start posting right off the bat. I was a little stuck on what I should post about, since at the current moment I don't have all the proper equipment (camera, good lighting, etc.) to give you guys a really complete experience.

I decided I could talk a bit about my current hair routine. I made the big decision to cut my hair this past October for my birthday. I have always had long hair, and it is still quite long, but I felt that it lacked a bit in style. I decided to get myself some bangs. It was a bit of a rash decision, I was generally very low maintenance when it came to my hair, as you will see later. I went for a straight across, Taylor Swift inspired look and was very pleased with the results (even if it does mean I have to wake up a little earlier to make myself look presentable).

On the left is the style I had been sporting since I was in middle school (shamefully). The right is my current style. Also let's excuse the older picture, I had a horrible way of making faces.

Before the change, I pretty much just washed my hair, blow dried it if I wanted to straighten it, and went out the door. Now that I have these dandy bangs, my hair requires a bit more styling.

I wash my hair with Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship (the smell, absolutely wonderful) typically every day. I can't stand the feeling of dirty hair, and even though I know it's bad to wash your hair every day, I can't help it. At most I can go one day without washing, but that's a bit more difficult now that I have these bangs to deal with. Sometimes I switch it up and use Head and Shoulders Smooth and Silky when my scalp is feeling a bit flaky, and use Aussie 3 Minute Miracle (it is, I swear) as a deep treatment a couple times a week.

Once I'm out of the shower, I brush through it, separate my bangs from the rest of my hair and hold them together with a couple bobby pins, and throw it up in a towel while I do my makeup. My hair stays in the towel for about 15 or 20 minutes, depending on how much time I want to devote to my face that day.

After my makeup is finished, I take my hair out of the towel and use a 1.5" round brush and hair dryer and style my bangs. Essentially I just roll my bangs around it and blow dry it on low until it's almost dry, then I take a larger round brush, about 2 or 2.5" and do the same thing until it is dry. After it's dry, I go back in with the smaller brush and do a bit of a tighter curl, don't ask me why, but it's necessary.

Once I've completed those steps for my bangs, I take Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Blow Dry Perfecter and apply a dime size amount of that through the rest of my hair. I brush that through and then apply Garnier Fructis XXL Thickening Mousse to my roots and blow dry it with either the larger round brush or a paddle brush. When that's done, if I'm wanting a more polished look I spray on some of the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Straightening Mist and go over it with my straightener. Then I spray everything with Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Hairspray to set it in place. I'll tease my bangs if they need some more volume or they're separating. I've went ahead and listed the products and prices (Walmart) for you guys. I just now noticed all of these products are Garnier Fructis. Well I guess that tells you something!

I know that was an absolute ton of steps and instructions, but this hairstyle is new to me so I'm still getting the swing of it myself. If anything changes I'll make sure to make an update!

Caitlin.

Hello!

This marks my first blog post on my new blog Wine and Winged Liner. I thought to start things off it would be good to introduce myself.

My name is Caitlin and I am 21 years old. I am from a very small town in Ohio and am currently located in Columbus, Ohio where I am in my junior year of college studying Advertising & Graphic Design. I absolutely love my school, and have no doubts whatsoever about my career path. If you're not going to love what you do, why do it?

Since I was young I have always had a love for everything beauty. Whether it's makeup, fashion, manicures, or whatever else the beauty world throws at you I'm all over it. I try to recreate high end looks on a college budget (a teeny tiny little budget) that are still fashionable. This blog will be focused on that aspect of my life, maybe with the occasional design project thrown in.

On a typical night you can find me relaxing on my couch watching Food Network and browsing online. On occasion I love to go out with friends, or just hang out at my little apartment with my roommate and our pet fish (they're betas, so no play dates for them). My favorite color is purple and I never say no to anything chocolate.

I can't wait to see how this little blog grows!

xoxo,
Caitlin

Also this is me, in case you were curious.
